Angus Howell

Farmer Representative

Angus Howell is a farmer who, with his partner Diana Chomley runs a dairy heifer raising business near Benalla in North East Victoria.

Angus has had a long interest in the people and the environment in the farming community and was employed for ten years as a full time coordinator of the Warrenbayne Boho Land Protection Group which formed in 1983. He also served for five years as Victoria’s representative on the Board of LandCare Australia Ltd.

Angus has had forty years working with the Victorian Farmers Federation, the development of the LandCare movement, the development of Farm Forestry groups, farm discussion groups, Fire Brigades, and a key advocate for local community issues. He has developed a strong interest in health factors both physical as well as mental health, and how they impact on his peers.

Angus has himself participated in the SFF program and has recently completed a “Mental Health First Aid” course.

His interests lie in making a contribution to avoiding the risks of ‘unrecognized pressures’ which can often lead to tragic results. His expectations are that he might bring some of his farming community experience to the future of the SFF program.
