During the course of the Sustainable Farm Families projects, reports will be provided to enable monitoring of the projects current status and to celebrate its achievements.
A report for the Gardiner Foundation provides a glimpse on the current health status of Dairy farm families across ten regions throughout Victoria. It increases our understanding of what affects dairy farming family health and identifies measures to improve their health, well being and safety.
The SDFF Project has achieved some very important outcomes and research findings during the life of the project. The significant outcomes include:
• High retention rates of participants in the SDFF program over three years;
• Participant retention of knowledge gained over three years of the project;
• Reduction of clinical indicators which correlate to major diseases including, for example cardiovascular disease (CVD) and type II diabetes;
• Increased use of protective aids and equipment on farms and positive lifestyle changes consistent with action planning by participants to commit to family holidays, and other stress reduction activities;
• Generation of further research into the health, wellbeing and safety of farming families across Australia; and
• The great majority of participants recommending the program to other farming families.
This project was funded by the Gardiner Foundation Major Community Development Project.
